There's all kinds of ways you can tweak the edges - Jack Nilles

Q - What is the role of government and regulation, both carrot and stick? - Jeff Frick
A - It's one of these things where there's no big single pervasive rule that says if we make the following law, everything's fixed. No, it's bits and pieces here. You have to nibble away. - Jack Nilles

(I received) a grant from the National Science Foundation to do the research. But they wouldn't go further than that in applied research because NSF only did fundamental research. I ran up against a roadblock because the departments that were involved in applied stuff didn't believe in this. - Jack Nilles

One of the things I did with the city of Los Angeles was to get them to change their work codes so that people could, in fact, be working at home as long as they didn't have crowds of people coming to their door. Restrictions like this impede people from living the way that they should be able to in this new kind of a situation. - Jack Nilles

The government can have a significant impact on behavior with incentives and penalties tied to specific activities and behaviors. Many of the rules were established in an era before digital, distributed work became prevalent.

Progressive countries are competing for remote workers by creating special visas and other means to reduce friction in the process, inviting these economic engines to their shores.

It's a long and arduous process, but if Jack has been fighting the good fight for fifty years and counting, surely we can work together to keep the light of change moving forward.
