The meeting situation is just a symptom of a broader problem ... What are our communication norms? You have to start putting into place some of the asynchronous communication norms in order to solve the meeting problem. - Sacha Connor

Meetings are being used as a crutch to get updates on progress on projects. If you have no asynchronous dashboards, tools, communication options, you're going to keep having these meetings where they feel like they're inefficient and ineffective. - - Sacha Connor

Meetings are where your culture is being built or it's being torn down. If you're all in different locations, the only peaks that you get into that culture are in your live meetings, so those meetings need to take on a whole new level of importance. - - Sacha Connor


Bad meetings are a symptom of bigger problems.

Little or no async process in place. Little or no confidence in systems to inform of what happened at the meeting for those that don't attend. Poor meeting etiquettes around status updates and 'informs.'

Communication protocols and team level agreements. Meetings will be a line item of detail, not the primary communication method.
